Seat Covers Glossary
Ultra Violet or UV radiation
Ultra Violet rays of the Sun are bad for our skin and the eyes. However, they are also detrimental to the health of automobile upholstery, especially leather upholstery as they are likely to ‘dry up’ its oily content, turning it lifeless and fragile. But that is not all – UV rays also damage fabric upholstery of an automobile.
Custom Fit seat cover
The seat covers that are custom made for a particular make and model of the automobile is referred to as the Custom fit seat cover. These covers are designed to fit as snugly and accurately as the original factory installed upholstery.
Semi-custom Fit seat covers
Semi-custom Fit seat covers provide almost 80% accurate fit as compared to the Coverking Custom Fit’s 100% perfection. However, these seat covers are not meant for vehicles having Side Airbag Safety features installed in them as these are likely to obstruct their operations.
Universal Fit seat covers
Universal Fit seat covers are generic products that are available in 3 standard sizes. They are not made for any specific vehicle and so, hardly offer the correct fit.
Friction
Chafing or the rubbing action between two similar or dissimilar materials like a person’s apparel and the seat cover at the time the person is boarding or getting out is referred to as Friction. It generates heat which ends up damaging the surface of the material.
Polyester
It is a water-resistant synthetic material that is used in seat cover making. Polyester was much favored by the disco community during the late seventies. But these days, Polyester has become extremely popular.
Pink Slip
It is a Yankee slang denoting the vehicle registration certificate. It is also linked to road racing where the winner is often entitled to own the loser’s vehicle only if the Pink Slip can change hand. Hence the popular saying: “Don’t lose your Pink Slip”.
